Cooking Conversion Chart
Amazing recipes come from all around the world and
unfortunately we don’t all use the same measurements. Here are few conversions
to help you figure out how many cups are in an ounce or how many tablespoons
are in a cup. Tip: Ctrl F to quickly
find what you’re looking for.
General cooking
measurement rules
A cup is about the
size of your first.
Eight ounces is about the size of your hand.
A “pinch” is about 1/8 of a tsp.
A “dash” is about
1/16 of a tsp.
Dry measurements
1/2 teaspoon = 2.5 mg = 1/12 oz
1 teaspoon = 5 mg = 1/6 oz
1/2 tablespoon = 7.5 mg = 0.25 oz
1 tablespoon = 15 mg = 0.5 oz = 3 tsp
1/4 cup = 62.5 mg = 2 oz = 4 tbsp
1/3 cup = 80 mg = 2.7 oz
1/2 cup = 125 mg = 4 oz
1 cup = 250 mg = 8 oz
Flour
1 lb of flour = 4 cups
Sugar
2 cups granulated sugar = 454 grams = 1 pound white
1/4 cup granulated sugar = 55 grams
1/4 cup brown sugar = 50 g = 0.11 lb
1 c brown sugar = 200g = 0.44 lb
2 1/4 cups brown sugar = 450 grams = 1 lb
1/4 cup confectioner’s sugar = 31 g = 0.06 lb
1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar = 62.5 g = 0.14 lb
1 cup confectioner’s sugar = 1 cup white sugar

Liquid measurements
1/4 cup = 2 oz = 4 tbsp
1/2 cup = 4 oz = 8 tbsp
1 cup = 8 oz = 1/2 pint
4 cups = 32 oz = 2 pints
1 litre = 34 oz = 1 quart + 1/4 cup
1 gallon = 128 oz = 4 quarts
Butter
1 stick of butter = 1/2 cup = 4 oz = 8 tbsp
1 cup butter = 225 grams
1/4 cup butter = 55 grams
Eggs
1 cup of eggs = about 5 large eggs

ReplyDeleteIt appears the numeric value of the dry measurements are actually in grams (not milligrams - as they appear above).
